About Us
Our Mission
Ensuring livelihoods for 3 million poor people through providing developmental services.
Our Approach
ASA's approach to development is firmly founded upon participatory action at the community level. At the heart of the organization is the aim of developing livelihood security which is facilitated by an intensive participatory process of natural resources development and local institutional development. Particular emphasis is placed upon the poor and women.
We work directly with over 120000 poor families in more than 1000 villages implementing various rural development programs, covering 18 districts in M.P and Bihar. Most of the people we work with belong to tribal and other socially disadvantaged communities.
ASA’s Livelihood Model
At ASA, we have realized that significant opportunities for the enhancement of livelihoods exist through the restoration and management of available natural resources.
We have developed a strategy that is based on the hypotheses that:
With over 70% of the rural population dependent on agriculture directly or indirectly the development of Land, Water and Vegetation, the fundamental resources, hold the key for improvement in livelihood. With the investment on land, water and vegetation intensification and diversification of agriculture with steady flow of institutional credit is perhaps the mantra to increase the rural GDP. In this model of livelihood the local institutional development for management and sustainability are instrumental in optimizing the investment made on the above factors. Special focus is placed on the poor and the women in this model.
