Seeding the Green: “Participatory cotton breeding for organic farming and securing genetic diversity of Non GM cotton”
Project Summary
Research Institute of Organic Agriculture Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau (FiBL) Switzerland in collaboration with ASA has been executing Seeding the Green Future, project with the aim to improve the availability of premium quality seed of non GM varieties of cotton for the benefit of small holder farmers in the country. Further, it aims to enhance the collaboration among the various stakeholders (Agriculture universities, seed producing company, NGOs) and to facilitate local capacity building together with farmers to establish the local seed supply for organic cotton. An important goal of the project is the conservation and use of genetic diversity, especially the local robust Desi cotton types..
